Healthy Teeth :: Our Experiment :: Day 1

Today we were being scientists. We were wondering about our teeth.  We talked about foods and drinks that are good for our teeth and foods that are bad for our teeth. We wondered about what would happen to our teeth if we didn't brush them.

We decided to make an experiment.  We pretended that an egg was a tooth.  Here is what we did:

Step 1
We poured soda in a cup. We poured apple juice in a cup. We poured water in a cup.

Step 2
We put an egg in each cup.

Step 3

We wait and look at it and investigate with our eyes. We drew pictures and wrote about what we saw.

What do you think will happen?

  1. We think that the water will be good for your teeth because it is healthier than soda and juice.

    Good luck with your experiement!

We are trying this experiment today. We looked on a website that showed us how much sugar there is in soda pop and juice. We were shocked! The website is:

    http://www.sugarstacks.com/beverages.htm

We think the egg in the soda is going to turn black.
We think the egg in the juice is going to turn yellow.
We think the egg in the water is going to stay shiny.

  4. Hello Mrs. Fennemore's Class,
Joshua thinks the eggs will break. Amanda thinks the eggs will go rotten. Kaylee thinks the eggs will take on the colour of the soda and juice.
We can't wait to see what happens!

  5. Thank you for telling us your predictions! We were very excited to watch our eggs. They did not break or crack but they certainly did change...at least two of them did. The egg in the water stayed white and did not change. The egg in the cola and the juice turned really brown. We thought the cola would have turned the darkest but it didn't. Both eggs were about the same color. The eggs turned brown by the end of day 1. We are so glad that the eggs were not really our teeth!
