We're Getting Ready for Grade One

Today was a big day!  Mrs. Fennemore's Blue Group friends are getting ready for grade one and today....they stayed the WHOLE day!

It was a long one, but all fourteen kinderkids survived it just fine! Eating lunch in pod one and going outside to play at lunchtime seemed to be the favourites!  A few kinderkids said they couldn't pick just one thing...they loved everything the best!

One thing is for sure...the kinderkids certainly are superstars....and have proved that they are more than ready for grade one! Hip Hip Hooray!

Fun with an iPad!

Mrs. Fennemore's little boy (who is really a big boy) let us use his iPad today! We were very careful with it.  We are exploring iPads a little to show the grownups who rule all the schools around us that they are a great learning tool!  A few of the kinderkids spent 5 minutes of Daily 5 choice time today to Work on Writing or Word Work using iPad apps.  Look at what a few kinderkids did in under 5 minutes!  Superstars!

First we had some friends choose a free app Skitch to label what was happening with our pumpkin seeds and our caterpillars.

We also had two stories created using the My Story app.  The kinders found this one really easy to use.  We can read and listen to their finished stories on the ipad but we couldn't post it directly here - so I had to videotape it playing on the ipad for you to see! We hope you like them! Not bad for under 5 minutes work!

Volcano....

and How a Pumpkin Seed Grows

And another friend told a story about a caterpillar.

Another friend practised how to print and name different letters using My Name.

The Word Magic app was another favorite! Some friends found missing initial sounds while others were stretching words to hear the missing vowel! We are great word detectives!

We are hoping an iPad fairy will come and leave us a few iPads to explore a little longer!

Kindergarten Musicians!

Did you hear about the adventures the Blue Group had yesterday afternoon?  While we had many adventures, we were very excited to find that two of our kinderkids brought along their instruments and performed for us!  It was quite the treat!  They sounded so beautiful we wanted to share their performance with you!  We hope you enjoy as much as we did!

Living things are everywhere!

Have you heard about our seeds?  Last week we planted some!

Some have turned into living things.  We are documenting them as they  change.

Today some friends found roots and a few friends even discovered a sprout!

Can you guess what kind of seeds we planted?

Introducing a new kind of masterpiece...RUGHOOKING!

Have you heard about our new masterpiece? We are learning all about rughooking!

Thank you to Bertha's mom for bringing in a frame and all  the materials we need!  We are having fun learning how to hook!  It is hard and a little frustrating at times, but we are taking turns and being as patient as we can.  We will keep posting our progress for you to see!

Read to Someone via Skype

Two of our friends enjoyed reading a book today...not to one of our kinderkids but to some kinderkids around the world.  Through skype, they were able to read to friends in Ms. Holt's Kindergarten Class from Washington, USA and in Ms. Soltau-Heller's Class from British Columbia Canada.

Hip Hip Hooray!  It was an exciting afternoon!
