Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten!

This year we will be using FreshGrade to document, communicate, and assess learning during the kindergarten year.  The suite of apps makes learning visible in real time through the use of digital portfolios and assessment tools. With the FreshGrade for Parents app, parents have secure access to view an comment on artifacts in the student’s portfolio.

We will be capturing and sharing your child’s learning with you through photos, videos, audio, and notes. Captured artifacts and activities will build a Portfolio that will show your child’s progress throughout the school year. Notifications and emails will let you know when your child’s portfolio is updated and share their learning in real-time. It’s like having a window into the classroom.

Information about accessing your child's portfolio will come home on the first day of school.  Portfolios can be accessed by visiting:

iTunes app store: FreshGrade for Parents (free app)
Google Play: FreshGrade for Parents

As always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to let us know.

How Can You Be A Friend?

Today was Kindness Day at MDE.  We dressed in pink and talked a lot about how we are all different... and that's okay! We try to be as kind as we can everyday, but today we tried to be good friends to as many people as we could.

Here are some of our thoughts on how to be a good friend....

Dheeraj can be a friend by sharing toys with a friend.  That  is kind.

Zainab can be a friend by sharing markers. Or if someone breaks your tower just build another one with your friend.

Kenzie can be a friend by playing with everyone. You can invite someone into your game. You can also sit with someone if they are crying.
Seamus can be a friend by giving things to people.

Kara can be a friend. If a friend is alone by the block area, you could go play with them.

Adrianna can be a friend by playing outside with them.

Hunter can be a friend by sharing his pink monkey with his friends. And if someone is hurt ask them if they are okay.
Marcwin can be a friend by sharing cars with others.
Aidan can be a friend by inviting a friend to a birthday party or having a playdate.

Robin can be a friend by inviting someone to play with her.

Avery says being a friend is sitting with someone who is by themselves.

Jesse says being a friend is sitting by someone who is alone.

Aayan says you should always call a teacher if a friend is hurt. He can be a good friend. If a friend has an idea for a game, play their game.

Mohannad can be a friend by sharing some food with someone who doesn’t have any.
Omar can be a good friend by being nice and sharing with others.
Noah says he can be a good friend by sharing his monkey with someone who is alone.

Love is ...

Kenzie says love is giving hugs and kisses.

Dheeraj says love is all about playing with each other and making your own games with friends.

Seamus says love is being happy.

Hunter says love is being nice.  Giving to people and taking turns is nice.

Nathan says love is eating pizza.

Adrianna says love is playing with your mom.

Mohannad says love is playing with someone if they are crying.

Noah says love is funny like Pie Face Game.

Jesse says love is going places with your mom or dad.

Aidan says love is going on a picnic with your mom and dad.

Avery says love is going on an airplane to Florida with your mom and dad.

Colton says love is giving people stuff.

Kara says love is playing at the park and having fun.

Aayan says love is about making new friends.

Omar says love is being nice and giving people things that they want.

Marcwin says love is   dinosaurs.

Robin says love is mom and dads kisses.

Mrs. Fennemore says love is sitting with someone who is all by themselves so that they won't feel lonely.

Happy Holidays to All!

Some of the kinderkids posed for a final photo by the tree or an "Elfie Selfie" like in the Primary Christmas Concert!

Not all kinders wanted photos...and that was okay too!  But they did become stars of some special dances...even if they didn't know it! If you are looking for a giggle or two...here you go....

Macdonald Drive Elementary is proud to once again partner with Veseys Bulbs to run a Fall Fundraising Campaign selling quality bulbs and seeds for your garden. Bulbs will be delivered in time for fall planting for lovely blooms in the spring of 2017!

This is a fantastic fundraiser as Veseys graciously gives us back half the money raised from all orders collected. We will be treating this fundraiser as a Kindergarten Fundraiser with 50% of all sales going directly back to developing the outdoor component of our program .

The deadline for submission of orders is Friday, October 7th, 2015. Please ensure that all order sheets are totalled and if you have multiple sheets, they are stapled together. Payment may be in the form of cash or cheque, with cheques made payable to Macdonald Drive Elementary School. Bulbs will be delivered to MDE for pick up by families. We will notify you of pick up times once the orders arrive.

MDE thanks you for your support!

Our Snow Day

Yesterday we had a snow day!

Mrs. Fennemore went for a long walk in the snow and caught two snowflakes on her tongue!
Mason went sledding down a big hill.
Erika had a play date with Meredith, her sister and her friends.  They went sliding.
Sreya did not do anything. She was at Orpa's house.
Seth was trying to shovel snow.  Uncle Aubrey was trying to help him with his tractor.
Aiden went sledding. He had one accident. His pop knocked him over on the ice by accident!
Audrey and William played together in the snow and then went into Audrey's house for some hot chocolate! William said after they danced and played a video game and played with a cat.
Sara went sledding but it was way too deep so she colored some snow with food coloring in a bottle.
Ayham's dad built him a big Tyrannosaurus Rex snowman!
Lucy went to her next door neighbour Sophia's house for hot chocolate.

What do you like to do in the snow?
