Skating Day Informaton

Watch magic bags tomorrow for an important note about next week's skating day!  There will be a slip you will need to complete and return by Friday to help us with our preparation for the day.  We thank you for your help!

Please note...

Our school wide skating day is approaching.  All kindergarten students will attend the morning session on Tuesday, December 16^th.  Please note, that dismissal will be 12:00 on this day.

We have had a number of questions regarding how the morning will work and what the children will need to participate.  Please note:

·         Any child who comes to school (whether skating or not) will be brought to the arena.  A viewing area will be available to any students not skating. Please ensure that students are dressed warmly.

·         All students who will be going on the ice will require skates and a helmet.  There will not be any available at the arena.

·         Many kindergarten students have limited skating experience.  If you feel your child will need assistance while on the ice, we ask that if at all possible an adult (parent, grandparent, babysitter, relative) accompany your child to ensure their safety. While we will try to provide as much assistance as possible, it will be difficult to supervise and assist everyone on the ice at all times. Adult volunteers do not have to wear skates while on the ice, but can if they have them.

·         We will try to have a small snack before we leave for the arena.  Students can bring their snack bag to school as they normally do.

November 3rd:: Field Trip to Bowring Park:: All kinders will attend the morning session 8:30 - 12:00 :: There will be no PM session.

On Wednesday February 26th we will be celebrating our 100^th day of kindergarten!  We will be completing all sorts of fun activities that day and will require your help with a couple before the big day arrives.  Here are the details:

Collect a set of 100 items.  Please help your child fill a bag with 100 like items and bring them to school.  Examples could be 100 cheerios, 100 pennies, 100 paperclips, 100 pieces of macaroni, 100 buttons, etc.  The possibilities are endless however the 100 items should be something that we can keep at school as we will be weighing them, building with them, and using them for a variety of projects.  To help with the counting, we sent home a workmat which will help your child count 100 items.  Counting sets of 10 is easiest by placing ten on each circle of the workmat.  Our focus is on 100 being made up of 10 sets of 10. This will make their counting much more manageable.  Please send in your filled baggie by Monday February 24th.

Dress for the day!  Have a discussion with your child about how they would look if they were 100 years old.  Would their hair be the same?  How would they dress? How would they walk?  Would their eyesight be the same as it is now? Use your imagination and come to school dressed like a 100 year old!  

Important Schedule Changes For The Week

It's going to be a busy week! Mrs. Fennemore will be away at the Department of Education from Monday - Wednesday.  Ms. Healey will be back with the kinderkids to continue where we left off last week!

We have some important schedule changes for the coming week...

RED GROUP: There will be NO CLASSES for the Red Group on Thursday to accommodate the grade one day for the Blue Group! Thursday readers can bring their books on Wednesday for this week! There will be no kindergarten classes on Friday due to a school development PD Day. 


BLUE GROUP: Grade One day is Thursday! The Blue group will come to school ALL DAY! Remember to pack a recess snack as well as pack a separate lunch for lunchtime! Arrival time will be 8:30 and dismissal will be at 3:00! There will be no kindergarten classes on Friday due to a school development PD Day.

Scheduling Interviews For First Term

Can you believe we are at the end of first term?  Progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 29th.  Parent/teacher interviews are scheduled for Thursday, December 1st.  Kindergarten children will have no classes on this day and I am available to begin  interviews at 9 a.m. Interview appointments can be booked online through the OPTIS website. Clicking the image to the left will take you to the OPTIS site where you can register and schedule your appointment time. A detailed memo is coming home today with step by step instructions for booking your time. If you encounter any problems, be sure to contact the school!

Bowring Park...Here We Come!

Our field trip to Bowring Park is a go! Remember to dress warm as we will be outside all morning! All you will need to bring for today is a small snack to have at the park.

MDE Bookfair

On Wednesday, October 26^th, the children will be attending the Bookfair in the Library.  The morning sessions are scheduled to purchase books at 11:05 and the afternoon sessions are scheduled at 2:30. 

Parents are invited to come along and accompany the children to the bookfair and help them to choose suitable books to purchase.  If parents are unable to attend at these times perhaps a Grandparent or some other designated person can come. 

On Tuesday, October 25^th, the children will go to the Library to preview the books that will be available on Wednesday. Watch for their wishlist to come home!

On Wednesday, please ensure that any money your child brings for the bookfair is enclosed in a coin purse or baggie marked with your child’s name.  It can be stored in their magic bag until needed.

Fieldtrip is a go!

We are hoping the rain will stay away until later in the morning!  Our Blue Group will go to the pumpkin patch and hope to leave the school by 9 a.m. Remember to come dressed for cold wet weather!

Curriculum Night

It was so nice to be able to see so many of you on Thursday evening's Curriculum Night.  If you were unable to attend, I will send home the information package in your child's Magic Bag.
